After both teams had a number of try scoring opportunities, both bombed and disallowed, the Panthers finally opened the scoring when Jamal Idris ran on to a Matt Moylan pass and split the line at close range. The try was not converted and Penrith led 4-0.
Seven minutes later, Dean Whare was the beneficiary of a spilt bomb, picking up the ball five minutes out and with only a couple of metres to work with planted the ball rather acrobatically in the corner. With yet another unsuccessful conversion, the Panthers held an 8-0 lead.
It would remain that score to half time.
Penrith pulled further ahead after 47 minutes when Idris once again ran off a short ball at close range and rampaged over. Moylan finally landed a conversion to lead 14-0.
Only minutes later, Idris had a hat trick when the video referee pressed the green light when they were convinced that he had grounded the ball on the try line in heavy defensive traffic.
At 18-0 with 18 minutes only remaining, the Panthers would cross for their fifth try, and was Whare’s second, which started with a line break 35 metres out, and the third pass off a scrum win.
Five minutes later, George Jennings was over in the corner when he finished a set move on the left edge that was started by Jamie Soward and went through the hands of Moylan and Idris and Penrith were up 30-0.
At 71 minutes, Sika Manu ran through a wide gap at close range, with the conversion stretching it out to 36-0.
Inside the final two minutes, the Panthers eighth and final try was scored by Bryce Cartwright who planted the ball in the corner after taking a flick pass from Idris.
