The home team opened the scoring with a penalty conversion to lead 2-0.

James Fisher-Harris ran off a Nathan Cleary inside pass close to the line to lead 4-2.

The Knights soon after crossed for their first try to lead 8-4. With five minutes remaining, Cleary put through a grubber with Malakai-Watene Zelezniak managing to bat the ball back before it went dead with Frank Winterstein winning the race to ground the ball first in the in goal. Cleary’s conversion gave Penrith a 10-8 lead at half time.

Five minutes after the resumption of play, Isaah Yeo powered his way over the line dragging up to five Newcastle defenders with him, with Cleary adding the extras to push Penrith’s lead to 16-8.

When the Knights scored with only seven minutes remaining to reduce the margin to 2 it set up a grandstand finish however the Panthers defence held firm to record their first win for the 2019 season.
