The Panthers opened the scoring with a penalty conversion after 11 minutes but the Tigers would hold a 4-2 lead at half time with a try at the half hour mark.
Ten minutes after the resumption, the Tigers pushed their lead further out to 8-2.
Inside the final 90 minutes, Dylan Edwards finished a backline movement and side stepped his opposing fullback to plant the ball near the corner. Nathan Cleary’s sideline conversion tied it up at 8-all after the full time siren to force it into golden point.
The requisite field goal shoot out ensued, with the Tigers missing their first chance and in the dying moments of the first half of extra time Cleary kicked a 40 metre field goal to win it for the Panthers.
