The visitors opened the scoring when Reagan Campbell-Gillard ran through a gap in the defensive line within the first four minutes. It was converted for a 6-0 lead.

12 minutes later, Penrith doubled the lead when Tyrone Peachey took the ball from 10 metres out and then ran the angle from a standing start to slice though the line.

Minutes later, Newcastle halved the deficit with a converted try.

With seven minutes later, a Knights attacking raid broke down when a pass went to ground – it was picked up by Peachey 30 metres out. On the counter attack, Peachey side stepped and busted wold be tacklers, running 50 metres down the left edge before linking up with Dallin Watene-Zelezniak to cross over. The successful conversion gave the Panthers an 18-6 lead at half time.

Fourteen minutes into the second half, the Knights once again reduced the lead to 6, but three minutes later, a James Maloney field goal with 10 metres out stretched it to a 7 point lead to Penrith.

Two penalty conversions later bookended the Panthers fourth and final try when Corey Harawira-Neara snatched a cross field bomb from Maloney and planted the ball over the line.

A late consolation try to the Knights reduced the Panthers winning margin to 11 points.
