A penalty conversion to James Maloney opened the scoring after 11 minutes.
However, the Bulldogs would cross for the first two tries, both converted, to lead 12-2 after 25 minutes.
In the shadows of half time, the home team would finally cross for their first four pointer when Corey Harawira-Neara finished off a regulation backline play, taking advantage of a 2 on 1. Maloney’s conversion reduced Canterbury’s lead to four at the break.
Six minutes after the restart, Moses Leota locked it up at 12-all when he was able to retain possession and rolled the ball over the line. Maloney’s conversion had Penrith hit the lead for the first time.
Canterbury would soon tie it up again when awarded a penalty, but only minutes later Penrith would themselves be awarded a penalty and pulled ahead 16-14 just before the hour mark.
Six minutes later, Isaah Yeo pushed the home team further ahead. It remained unconverted and kept the Panthers lead to just 6 heading into the final 10 minutes.
Minutes later, Penrith were working field position for a field goal but instead were awarded another penalty and pushed it out to 22-14 with 7 minutes remaining. It would be enough to keep the game out of reach for the visitors, as they recorded their fourth home victory from four matches in 2018.
