Friday 3rd June at BlueBet Stadium
Penrith 30 – Tries: Edwards (1), Kikau (1), May (1), Salmon (1), C. Smith (1); Goals: Falls (5) | Canterbury 18
In the fourth minute, Chris Smith successfully contested a pin-point cross field bomb from debutant five-eighth Kurt Falls to touch down.
The lead was soon after extended when Izack Tago sprinted down the left sideline and threw and overhead pass back inside which was taken by Dylan Edwards who in one motion also stepped outside the cover defence and crossed over in the corner.
Whilst the Bulldogs were next to respond to make it 12-6, the Panthers soon extended their lead when Taylan May acrobatically leapt in the corner and when Viliame Kikau ran into a gap off a short ball from Sean O’Sullivan, the score pushed out to 22-6 at half time.
Canterbury posted the first two tries of the second half to make it just a four point margin just before the 60 minute mark.
But Penrith would be next to score when a kick into the in goal curled towards the sideline and in a chasing pack Jaeman Salmon won the race to grounding the ball first to claim the try.
A penalty conversion – Falls’ fifth for the evening – with 10 minutes remaining pushed it out to 30-18 and would finish the scoring for the match.
