St. Mary’s junior, and the son of Merv Cartwright.

In 1979, he became the second from the family (after brother Cliff and before John and later Michael), to play first grade for the Panthers. He made his debut as a replacement in the Round 4 encounter versus Manly at Penrith Park. In total, he made four appearances in 1979, all as a replacement.

He finally earnt a run on start during the 1980 season, starting in the second row in the Round 9 win over Cronulla at Penrith Park, and later returned for the final match of the season versus North Sydney, crossing for a try in their win over the Bears.

In 1981, he would make six appearances, crossing for a try in their big win over Manly in Round 3, and also included three straight matches in the middle of the season as starting centre.

In 2014, his son Bryce made his first grade debut for the Panthers.
