WINS | [1990] Round 16: Penrith 14 Parramatta 2

Saturday 14th July at Penrith Stadium

Penrith 14 – Tries: Carter (1), van der Voort (1); Goals: Mortimer (3) | Parramatta 2

A penalty conversion from Chris Mortimer gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead.

Barry Walker split the line on the halfway mark from a standing start after taking a Brad Fittler pass, and found Steve Carter looming up in support to his left, with Carter finishing it off with a touch down adjacent to the left upright. Mortimer added the extras to make it 8-0.

An Eels penalty conversion would narrow the Panthers lead by 6 heading into half time.

In a tight contest, Penrith would score the only try of the second half, when Colin van der Voort finished a movement started by Paul Clarke on the 40 metre line, offloading the ball to David Greene who then found van der Voort in support, racing away to plant the ball near the uprights. Mortimer’s conversion gave Penrith a 12 point lead, and ultimately victory.
