Warren Fenton scored the first try after seven minutes when he grounded a loose ball from a Mark Levy bomb.

It was the only try in the first half, with the Steelers two penalty conversion seeing them trail the hosts 6-4 at half time.

Three minutes after the resumption, yet another Levy bomb yielded results when it was spilt by Illawarra with Craig Connor touching down, and Levy’s conversion extending the lead to 12-4.

Whilst the visitors reduced it to a two point margin, the Panthers secured the two premiership points in the dying minutes when Brett Lobb took a well timed Greg Alexander pass and crossed in the corner.
