Penrith 42 – Tries: Roberts (4), Campbell (1), Galuvao (1), T. Puletua (1), Rodney (1); Goals: Campbell (3), Rodney (2) | New Zealand Warriors 22
Tony Puletua scored the opening try of the match in the fifth minute, with Preston Campbell’s conversion making it 6-0.
Although the Warriors scored the next two tries to take 10-6 lead at the 17 minute mark, the visitors soon after regained the lead through a try to Joe Galuvao, which was converted by Campbell to make it 12-10.
This lead was further extended in the 25th minute when Amos Roberts took an intercept and ran 60 metres untouched to touch down. Two tries in two minutes, the first to Campbell and then a second to Roberts where he ran off a Trent Waterhouse break to touch down in the corner pushed it out to 26-10.
The hosts opted for a penalty conversion on the stroke of half time to reduce it 26-12.
The Panthers were first to score after the resumption, with Roberts claiming a hattrick when he finished off a brisk movement of the ball to the right edge.
A penalty conversion from Shane Rodney made it 34-12 on the 50 minute mark, before Roberts crossed for his fourth when a high kick off Campbell was batted back short of the try line by Luke Lewis, with Roberts on the spot to pick it up and fall over the line.
Two Warriors tries reduced it 38-22 with three minutes remaining, however Penrith would have the final say when Luke Rooney scored in the dying seconds to complete a crushing 20 point victory.
