WINS | [1988] Round 12: Penrith 16 Canberra 10

Sunday 5th June at Seiffert Oval

Penrith 16 – Tries: Izzard (1), Mortimer (1), Smith (1); Goals: Baker (2) | Canberra 10

Canberra led 6-0 after 21 minutes, however on the half hour mark centre Chris Mortimer touched down, with Neil Baker’s conversion leveling it up at 6-all, and remained that score at half time.

Whilst the Raiders pushed further ahead just after the resumption to lead 10-6, a Brad Izzard try just before the hour mark once again tied it up at 10-all, with the visitors taking the lead with Baker’s conversion.

With 12 minutes remaining, halfback Greg Alexander went on a jinking run cross field, and sent winger David Greene though a gap with a well timed pass, with Greene diving in the corner. Although Baker was unable to successfully convert the try, the Panthers’ six point lead was successfully defended up until the full time whistle.
