After a scoreless opening 25 minutes, hooker Mike Stephenson made a break, with front rower Terry Geary then putting second rower John King in adjacent to the posts. Ken Wilson successfully converted to make it 5-0 heading in to half time.
Two penalty conversions in the first 12 minutes of the second half further extended the lead to 9-0.
Tries to halfback John Klein and winger Terry Quinn in the final 15 minutes had pushed the home team’s lead to 17-0, and capped a defensive effort by not conceding a point. It was a landmark victory as it was the first time that the Panthers had kept a team scoreless in their first grade history.
