Blacktown Workers junior and the middle of the three Izzard brothers that played for Penrith (also Brad and Grant).

He made his first grade debut in Round 16 1983 versus Canterbury at Belmore, coming off the bench. He made two more appearances in the next two rounds, starting on the wing in his third appearance before dropping back down to reserve grade for the remainder of the season. He would make three more appearances in the 1984 season.

In 1985, he became a more regular member of the first grade team, making 17 appearances, including coming off the bench as a replacement in both the fifth spot playoff win and their first ever finals match.

This continued over the 1986 and 1987 seasons, appearing 31 times and included a number of matches as the lock forward in 1987. He capped off the 1987 season as captain of the reserve grade premiership team.

It would be however his final appearance in Penrith colours, joining neighbours Parramatta in 1988, and later had stints at Balmain (1991) and Illawarra (1992-1993).
