Parramatta posted the first points to lead 6-0, however Penrith soon equalised when a deft and well angled Nathan Cleary kick from close range was picked up by Kurt Capewell, who touched down adjacent to the right upright, with Cleary’s conversion locking it up at 6-all.
A penalty conversion slotted by Cleary on the stroke of half time gave the Panthers a slender 8-6 lead.
Penrith were denied an opportunity to further extend their lead early in the second half when the bunker intervened on a Brent Naden try, and in a gritty defensive performance from both sides, it was a scoreless second half as the Panthers held on and kept their season alive, advancing to the preliminary final.
