WINS | [2021] Round 22: Penrith 34 St. George Illawarra 16

Friday 13th August at Suncorp Stadium

Penrith 34 – Tries: Edwards (2), Naden (2), Burton (1), Momirovski (1); Goals: Cleary (5); | St. George Illawarra 16

Brent Naden ran for a 90-metre intercept try, which was converted by the returning Nathan Cleary to have the Panthers lead 6-0.

The Dragons however would provide a response with a converted try to make it 6-all.

Naden bagged a double when Matt Burton drew the two-on-one on the left edge, which was followed soon after with a powerful effort from Dylan Edwards at close range. At half time, the Panthers led 16-6.

Eleven minutes into the second half, Edwards also secured a double when he supported Burton who made a break on the halfway line and finished it off with a try.

Four minutes later, the Panthers provided a counterattack from a lost ball that spilled forward in a tackle from Cleary about 20 metres out, with the Panthers moving the ball left and Burton stepping through the scattered Dragons defence to touch down.

The Dragons scored two late tries to attempt to bring some respectability to the score, but in between those two tries was one to Paul Momirovski where he ran through some brittle online defence.
