The Roosters led 12-0 inside the opening 15 minutes before the Panthers finally struck back when Nathan Cleary kicked on the second into the in goal with Stephen Crichton winning the race for the ball and grounding it to claim a try.
Penrith levelled it up at 12-apiece when Brian To’o scored in the corner and was converted by Cleary, with a penalty conversion soon after giving them the lead.
A second try to To’o and a second penalty conversion from Cleary gave the home team a 22-12 lead at half time.
Seven minutes into the second half, Isaah Yeo powered his way over from 10 metres out, and in the next set from the restart, a high Cleary bomb was not taken clearly by the Roosters, with Matt Burton batting it back and Cleary picking it up, firstly throwing the dummy and then running at the line and powering his way over.
Charlie Staines would score the last try for the night with 17 minutes remaining when he picked up a Cleary pass that had gone to ground, touching down in the corner.
