The Panthers scored first after 11 minutes with a try to Shane Rodney that was converted by Preston Campbell to lead 6-0.

Whilst the Rabbitohs struck back soon after with an unconverted try, two more tries to Luke Lewis in the 22nd and Trent Waterhouse in the 36th minutes, both converted by Campbell, gave the home team a rather comfortable 18-4 lead at half time.

A Luke Rooney try two minutes after the resumption pushed it out to 22-4, however, South Sydney would post the next three tries to narrow the lead to just two after 63 minutes.

With just under ten minutes remaining, the Panthers pulled further ahead when Rhys Wesser ran off a well-timed Craig Gower pass and on the stroke of full time, the Panthers iced the contest when Rooney supported a Tony Puletua tackle bust and crossed for his second.
