Penrith 20 – Tries: Burns (2), Purtell (1); Goals: Burns (4) | Canterbury 6
Penrith posted the first try in the 15th minute when Luke Walsh chipped ahead on the fifth tackle, and regathered when the Bulldogs defender spilled the ball, finding an unmarked Adrian Purtell to his right to score adjacent to the right upright.
Another Walsh kick provided points in the 23rd minute, with a high kick being taken by Travis Burns over the try line and grounding it.
Whilst the Bulldogs pressed at the Panthers line late in the half, the score remained 12-0 at half time.
A penalty conversion to Burns pushed it out to 14-0, and soon after yet another Walsh kick ended with points – this time, the Bulldogs defenders let a high kick bounce, and as the ball travelled towards the in goal, Burns won the race with a swan dive to ground the ball before it travelled dead. His fourth conversion for the evening made it 20-0, with Burns scoring 16 of those points.
Canterbury finally got on to the board with a converted try with just under 15 minutes remaining, but were not able to further bridge the divide and the home team ran out 14 point victors.
