The Panthers opened the scoring in the third minute when Luke Lewis dissected through a gap on the left edge.

Whilst the Rabbitohs soon countered with an unconverted try, the hosts pulled further ahead in the 18th minute when Luke Walsh ran the ball on the fifth tackle and a flick pass found a rampaging Trent Waterhouse.

Minutes later, Adrian Purtell was over in the corner when he finished off a backline movement to lead 16-4, and whilst both sides had their chances to add to the score line, remained as such at half time.

South Sydney were the first to score after the resumption to make it 16-10.

In a scrappy second half in wet conditions, the Panthers put the contest to bed with only minutes remaining when a pass to Masada Iosefa was grubbered forward to the in goal with Lachlan Coote grounding it.
