WINS | [2009] Round 10: Penrith 26 Cronulla 22

Saturday 16th May at Credit Union Australia Stadium

Penrith 26 – Tries: Aiton (1), Daniela (1), Lewis (1), Pritchard (1); Goals: Sammut (5) | Cronulla 22

The Panthers drew first blood when Geoff Daniela crossed over in the 24th minute, with Jarrad Sammut’s conversion making it 6-0.

The lead was soon doubled when Paul Aiton scored, but the Sharks hit back with only five minutes remaining in the half to reduce the home team’s lead to 6.

A converted try to Frank Pritchard and a penalty conversion had pushed the Panthers out to 20-6 after 53 minutes.

However, two quick tries to Cronulla had reduced Penrith’s lead to just two heading into the final ten minutes, before a leaping try to Luke Lewis gave them a bit more of a comfortable buffer with only minutes remaining.

A late consolation try to the Sharks on the full time siren was not enough to bridge the eight point deficit.
