The Raiders scored in the opening set of the match to lead 6-0 but only minutes later the Panthers also registered points on the scoreboard when David Simmons was on the end of a chain of passes to the right edge to cross in the corner. However the sideline conversion was not successful so Canberra retained a 2 point lead.

The visitors gained the lead in the 15th minute when a Jamie Soward cross field kick found an unmarked Josh Mansour on the left wing only metres from the line, and ran further towards the uprights to improve the position – it allowed Soward to successfully convert the try with the Panthers leading 10-6.

The lead was extended to 14-10 soon after when an angled run by Matt Moylan sliced the line and crossed for a four pointer.

But two quick fire tries to Canberra saw them wrest back the lead and were ahead 16-14 at half time.

Five minutes after the resumption, Penrith regained the lead when James Segeyaro burrowed over from dummy half, and soon after David Simmons was over for a double to lead 26-16.

A Canberra try with 10 minutes to go reduced Penrith’s lead to 6 but the Panthers were able to hold on for victory.
