South Sydney junior who debuted with the Rabbitohs in 1999, and upon their expulsion for the 2000 season signed with St. George Illawarra in 2000 before returning to South Sydney in 2003 for a second stint. After 128 matches across six seasons at both the Rabbitohs and Dragons, he signed a one year contract with the Panthers after the end of the 2005 season.
Hookey made his club debut for Penrith in the opening round of the season, starting on the wing and scoring a try in their two point win over the Bulldogs at Telstra Stadium. He would cross for six tries in his first five matches, including a hat trick against Melbourne at Hindmarsh Stadium in Adelaide. Midway through the season, he switched to the centres. In total he made 17 appearances for the Panthers throughout the 2006 season.
He would retire from playing in 2007.
