The Cowboys posted the first points however in the 14th minute Petero Civoniceva opened the Panthers account when he used his footwork at the defensive line creating a wide hole to run through and scored under the black dot, with Travis Burns’ conversion making it 6-4.
Whilst the visitors regained the lead, Penrith would hit back when a Luke Lewis offload found Lachlan Coote in support.
A Travis Burn’s penalty conversion soon after had the home team leading 14-10 at half time.
Yet another penalty conversion opened the scoring in the second half and extending the lead to 6.
The Cowboys reduced it to just 2 with a try, but the Panthers soon again extended the lead when Luke Walsh ran at the line and found Luke Lewis with an angled run, dissecting the Cowboys line and improving the position by planting it under the posts, with the conversion making it 22-14.
Once again, the Cowboys posted a try to make it 22-20 heading into the final 20 minutes.
When Sam McKendry burrowed over from dummy half with just over six minutes remaining it, it was once again an 8 point margin with Burns’ extras.
Burns’ seventh conversion on the stroke of full time gave the Panthers a victory and saw caretaker coach Steve Georgallis secure a win in his first NRL match in charge.
