Brothers junior who made his first grade debut for Penrith, starting at halfback in their Round 2 loss to Cronulla. He would make just one other appearance in the top grade, coming on a replacement against Canberra later in the season at Seiffert Oval and also scoring his first try.
In 1983, he would make 10 appearances, all as starting halfback in the second half of the season, crossing for four tries. However, he saw his future opportunities at the Panthers limited and pondered retirement to become a professional runner.
However he reconsidered and later trialled for Manly – he would play 256 matches for the Sea Eagles between 1984 and 1996, becoming on the game’s premier halfbacks and representing for NSW and Australia. After one season at Western Suburbs in 1997 he retired. He later entered into coaching, starting at Manly in 2004 before leaving for Canterbury but returning to Manly in 2019.
