Sunday 12th May at Centrebet Stadium
Penrith 12 – Tries: Simmons (2), T. Robinson (1) | Melbourne 10
In the 10th minute, a Melbourne attacking raid inside the Penrith’s defensive 20 metre area was snuffed out when David Simmons intercepted a pass and ran 85 metres untouched to plant the ball adjacent to the right upright, however it remained unconverted with the home team leading 4-0.
Eight minutes later, a cross field kick found Travis Robinson on the full and managed to ground part of the ball on the try line. Once again the conversion was unsuccessful
On 23 minutes, the Panthers were in for their third try when a chain of backline passes finished in the hands of Simmons, making a beeline for the corner and managed to ground the ball despite being shoulder charged by the Melbourne fullback at the same time. Luke Walsh was having an unhappy night with the boot, once again failing to land the conversion, and the Panthers led 12-0 at half time.
By the 60th minute the Panthers lead had been reduced to two with two tries to the visitors, and despite not scoring a point in the second half their defence in the final 20 minutes remained resolute and were able to hold on to snap an 11 match losing streak stretching back to 2006 against the Storm.
