Sunday 17th July at Pepper Stadium
Penrith 22 – Tries: Campbell-Gillard (1), Cartwright (1), Mansour (1), Peachey (1); Goals: Cleary (3) | Parramatta 18
The Eels scored three tries inside the first 20 minutes to lead 14-0.
The Panthers finally hit the scoreboard in the 26th minute when Reagan Campbell-Gillard ran on to one man cut out dummy half pass from Peter Wallace and ran a straight line to barge over adjacent to the left upright.
However Parramatta would have the final say for the half with their fourth try to hold an 18-6 lead at half time.
A converted try to Tyrone Peachey less than three minutes after the resumption of play, where he hit a gap ten metres out and bounced his way over the line.
In the set after the Panthers regained possession from kick off, they had worked their way back down to the 20 metres, a well-timed Nathan Cleary pass found Bryce Cartwright who broke the line and then threw a dummy to barge over in the corner. Cleary was not however able to convert it from the sideline.
It meant little as in the 53rd minute the home team had wiped their 12 point half time deficit when Peachey drew in the winger and in a simple two on one found Josh Mansour who crossed over untouched, with Cleary’s conversion from a much easier spot extending Penrith’s new found lead to 4.
Although they had chances to further extend the lead, they more importantly were able to keep Parramatta scoreless in the second half and recorded a come from behind win in the western derby.
