The Panthers opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Waqa Blake diffused a bomb on his own line, knocked it backwards, regathered and then stepped through the scattered Broncos line to run 100 metres untouched to plant the ball under the uprights.

Four minutes later it became 12-0 when James Fisher-Harris was able to get a part of the ball on the stripe when he was tackled just short of the line but momentum carrying him over.

A penalty conversion pushed it out further to 14-0 before English import Zak Hardaker ran off a Matt Moylan pass in the shadows of half time to score, with Cleary’s fourth conversion giving the visitors an 18-0 half time head.

The Broncos finally posted their first points early in the second half to reduce Penrith’s lead to 12, however in the 65th minute they posted their first points for the half to restore the 18 point lead when Moylan stepped his way through the line from out 12 metres out.

A second try to Brisbane once again reduced it to a 12 point margin at 24-12, but a Moylan 22 metre field goal from dead in front with just less than 5 minutes remaining gave Penrith an all-important 13 point buffer.

The Panthers iced the contest in the 78th minute when Trent Merrin hit and spun his way through the line at close range to barge over, and leaving Brisbane with a rare victory.
