Thursday 27th July at Pepper Stadium
Penrith 16: Tries: Peachey (1), Wallace (1), D. Watene-Zelezniak (1); Goals: Cleary (2) | Canterbury 8
Nathan Cleary opened the scoring after 5 minutes with a penalty conversion to give Penrith a 2-0 lead.
The first try came through Peter Wallace in the 17th minute when Canterbury failed to clear the ball in the in goal after a Dylan Edwards kick and successfully grounded it, with Cleary’s extras giving the home team an 8-0 lead.
Ten minutes later a converted Bulldogs try has trimmed the Panthers lead to just 2, and with only three minutes to go in the half a penalty conversion locked it up at 8-all, which would be the half time score.
In the 57th minute, Waqa Blake broke the line and found his winger Dallin Watene-Zelezniak in support, who planted the ball in the corner. Cleary was not able to successfully convert the four pointer and the score remained 12-8.
With 10 minutes remaining the Panthers further stretched their lead when Tyrone Peachey won the race for the ball in the in goal from his own kick. Once again, Cleary was unable to convert with the ball sailing just to the right, however the Panthers defence were able to hold out the Bulldogs for a hard fought but scrappy victory.
