Penrith held an 8-0 lead inside the first ten minutes, firstly through a converted try to Dallin Watene-Zelezniak and then a penalty conversion slotted by Jamie Soward.
A converted try to the home team reduced the lead to 2 but when Te Maire Martin sliced through the line their 8 point lead was restored.
A Roosters try just before half time reduced Penrith’s lead to 14-10 at the break.
A 40 metre effort from Waqa Blake which included a wide arcing run around the Roosters fullback pushed out Penrith’s lead to 20-10.
A freakish try to the visitors once again reduced the Panthers lead to four points and whilst denied an opportunity to once again push out their advantage in the dying minutes the Panthers defence held strong for a hard fought four point victory.
