The Titans would be the first to score to lead 4-0, but the Panthers struck back after 13 minutes when Luke Walsh ran at the line 10 metres out and crossed over, converting his own try for a 6-4 lead.

10 minutes later the lead was extended when David Simmons ran back inside from a Dean Whare pass on the right edge and ran a 45 degree line through the Titans defensive line to cross the try line.

However, the Titans would score 8 points in the final six minutes through a converted try and penalty to lock it up at 12-all at half time.

Soon after the restart, Penrith broke the deadline when James Roberts finished a chain of backline passes and ran 10 metres down the left sideline to plant the ball in the corner. Minutes later he had a double when he perfectly timed a run onto a cross field kick, taking it in the in goal and successfully planting it on the ground.

Penrith would keep piling on the points – in the 52nd minute, James Segeyaro broke the line and placed a perfectly timed grubber on the run with Simmons grounding it just before it ran dead.

This would be followed shortly after by a try that was started by a Whare line break and finished by Kevin Kingston.

When Roberts had crossed for his third try, the Panthers had scored 28 unanswered points in nearly as many minutes to lead 40-12, but the Titans would cross for a late consolation try.
