Penrith, benefiting from a strong gutsy wind behind their backs, would hold a 14-2 lead at half time, with tries to Grahame Moran and another to Reg Hatton just before half time, as well as four conversions to Ian McKechnie.
Whilst Newtown would counter with their first but only try in the second half, the Panthers were never headed and tries to Mal McMartin and Bruce Ward as well as three more goals to McKechnie saw them register a comfortable 26-9 victory.
