Leading 2-0, it became 8-0 to Penrith after nine minutes when Greg Alexander crossed for a converted try.

With only a minute remaining in the half, this was extended to 14-0 when Brad Izzard finished a block busting 50 metre run with Penrith’s second try.

Two minutes after the resumption, a Neil Baker field goal made it 15-0 and then a penalty conversion after 52 minutes made it 19-0.

Soon after, Greg Alexander bagged his second try, which was set up by debutant Brad Fittler – he had received the ball, started to accelerate, stepped off both feet and then kicked ahead, with Alexander winning the race for the ball that stopped in the in goal.

A penalty conversion as well as two converted tries to Col Van Der Voort and Darren Wills (also set up by Fittler) in the final 20 minutes completed a comprehensive shut out of the Magpies.
