Forward who made his first-grade debut for the Panthers as a 19 year old in the solitary Super League season of 1997, starting in the second row. It would he his only appearance that season and would make 17 appearances over the 1998 and 1999 seasons, all off the bench.

Heading into the new century, he would continue to be used primarily as an interchange player but occasionally started at hooker.

His final season at Penrith in 2002 saw him make more regular appearances in the starting 13, at either lock or in the second row.

He would join western Sydney rivals Parramatta for the 2003 season, playing 37 matches across two seasons before playing three seasons for the London Harlequins in the English Super League. He returned to Australia in 2008, playing one season for the Windsor Wolves in the third tier Jim Beam Cup before retiring due to injury.

Hopkins has since returned to the Panthers, being the strength and conditioning coach for the NRL squad.
