The prized English recruit started as a player (and captain) in 1974, but was appointed as the captain-coach for the 1975 season.
Results coupled with personal issues resulted in him giving up the role only 6 matches into the season, with reserve grade coach Barry Harris taking over the reins.
He would stay on at the club in a playing capacity until 1978, playing 69 premiership matches.
